Through a selection process in 2007, Kit was commissioned to work with the LIFT (who are they, are they important, will people know and be impressed by them or can you take it out?) team to provide art works for the new, award-winning Mary Potter Centre in Hyson Green, Nottingham. The commission was to produce two tiled panels, each made from 40 tiles. The incorporated images were taken by local people during workshops led by Kit, alongside a selection of archive images from the Health Authority, the Picture the Past local history archive and images of the centre taken during and after construction.
The panels are housed in the main atrium, which is the centre’s main thoroughfare and provides a visual focal point for the community. These images portray the centre’s continuing commitment to health care and support in the area. The centre is named after it’s founding member Mary Potter who began this mission in 1877 with the aspiration to provide care for local people.
The centre is an outstanding support hub for the community bringing together doctors practices, dentistry, chiropody and physiotherapy alongside housing services, day-care and a nursery.
